New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party took a big decision on Tuesday. The party released the list of 9 candidates for the biennial elections of Rajya Sabha to be held on March 16. The biggest thing is that BJP national president Nitin Nabin himself has been made the Rajya Sabha candidate from Bihar. This list has been released by the party's national general secretary and headquarters in-charge Arun Singh.

Which candidate from which state?

Shivesh Kumar has also been nominated along with Nitin Naveen from Bihar. Terash Gowala and Jogen Mohan have been fielded from Assam. Lakshmi Verma from Chhattisgarh, Sanjay Bhatia from Haryana, Manmohan Samal and Sujit Kumar from Odisha and Rahul Sinha from West Bengal have been declared candidates.

Who is Nitin Nabin?

Nitin Nabin has been MLA from Bihar Assembly five times. Won from Patna West for the first time in 2006 and then won the election from Bankipur seat four times in a row i.e. 2010, 2015, 2020 and 2025. He also handled important ministries like road construction, urban development and law in the Bihar government. He is the current national president of BJP. Now the decision to send him directly to Rajya Sabha is being seen as a big political message within the party.

Why are the seats of Odisha and Bengal important?

BJP has recently come to power in Odisha. In such a situation, the names of Manmohan Samal and Sujit Kumar show that the party wants to further strengthen its hold in Eastern India. At the same time, the arrival of Rahul Sinha's name from West Bengal is no less shocking. This bet of BJP in Mamata Banerjee's stronghold gives a direct political message.

When will the voting be held?

Elections for these Rajya Sabha seats are to be held on March 16. As soon as the list was released, party leaders started congratulating the candidates. It is believed that in the states where BJP or NDA is in power, the victory of the party candidates is almost certain.

What will happen next?

The process of Rajya Sabha elections will be completed in the next few weeks and the descriptive nomination list of candidates and voting schedule will be announced. Other major political parties including the BJP, will also finalize the draft of their respective candidates and intensify the election campaign. After the results of this election, there can be a direct impact on the majority position in the Parliament and the bills being passed.
