New Delhi: There was chaos for some time due to fire in North Block near Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Monday. As soon as information about the incident was received, six fire engines of Delhi Fire Service reached the spot. According to officials, the fire started in the AC boiler installed on the roof of the building, which was soon controlled. It is a matter of relief that no casualties have been reported in this incident. According to initial information, construction work was going on in the building and during this time the fire broke out due to short circuit while welding.
According to officials, welding work was going on on the roof of a building in North Block. During this time, a short circuit allegedly occurred, due to which the AC boiler installed there caught fire. After receiving information about the fire, the fire department immediately dispatched six fire engines. Fire brigade personnel reached the spot and brought the fire under control. Officials have described the incident as minor. According to the information available at present, there is no news of anyone being injured or killed due to the fire.
Shiv Sena's Rajya Sabha MP Milind Deora also shared information about the fire incident near North Block. He said that while going to Parliament, he saw thick smoke rising from behind the North Block. After this, while sharing the picture on social media platform X, he expressed fear that there might be a fire there. He expressed hope that everyone would be safe and that emergency services would be responding quickly.
Incidents of fire in Parliament and its surrounding government buildings are relatively rare. Earlier in May 2022, there had been a small incident of fire in the new Parliament building. At that time the safety net in the building caught fire. On receiving the information, the fire department had sent five vehicles. However, the fire brigade present on the premises had brought the fire under control before the arrival of fire tenders.
Apart from this, incidents of fire were also reported earlier in three temporary shelters built for the workers working in the Central Vista Project near the Parliament House. After the incident that took place in North Block on Monday, the importance of checking fire safety system and electrical equipment during construction work has once again come to light.
