National News: Relentless heavy rains in the northeastern states of Mizoram, Assam, Manipur, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim have led to widespread devastation. Due to floods and landslides, connectivity has been lost in many areas, and thousands of people are forced to leave their homes and take shelter in relief camps.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with the leaders of the affected states over the phone, including the chief ministers of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim, as well as the governor of Manipur. He gathered information about the situation and assured them of all possible assistance for relief efforts. Shah said that the central government stands firmly with the people of the Northeast in this difficult time.
Heavy rains have created a flood situation in 15 districts of Assam. Many roads have been damaged, and rail and ferry services are also disrupted. Providing relief in the affected areas has become challenging.
More than 1500 tourists are stranded due to heavy rains in Sikkim, while more than 3800 people have been affected by floods in Manipur. Many houses have been completely washed away, and the administration is making necessary arrangements for the displaced in relief camps.
Many rivers in the Northeast, like the Brahmaputra, are in spate, which has increased the risk of floods. The Meteorological Department has advised being cautious about heavy rains and taking necessary rescue measures.
The central and state governments are jointly accelerating relief and rescue operations in the affected areas. NDRF, SDRF, and local administration are engaged in taking the affected to safe places. Amit Shah assured that the central government will extend all possible assistance. The public has also been appealed to to stay safe and avoid rumors.
