New Delhi: Security agencies have found an important clue in the investigation of Pahalgam terrorist attack. Investigation has revealed that the mobile phones recovered from the terrorists are related to the supply chain related to Pakistan. According to reports, the purchase and import process of a phone has been found to be linked to a bank whose name has already cropped up in investigations into financial matters related to terrorism. The investigating agencies are now investigating this entire network in depth.

How are layers of investigation being revealed through mobile phones?

The two smartphones recovered during the investigation are proving to be important evidence for the agencies. One device was reportedly part of a consignment imported into Pakistan in 2021. Investigators found that the phone remained inactive for a long period of time and was activated only shortly before the attack. For this reason, agencies are closely investigating its activities and usage patterns.

Why increased scrutiny on bank connections?

During the investigation, import records were scrutinized, in which the name of a Pakistani bank came to light. Media reports claim that this bank was earlier mentioned in some international terror financing cases. However, the bank has denied such allegations in the past. At present, Indian agencies are busy gathering additional information regarding this financial link.

What information did agencies get from the phone?

According to sources, the terrorists had used other communication mediums instead of normal mobile calls or internet based communication. For this reason, data of direct conversation could not be obtained from the phone. However, during forensic investigation, some photographs, maps and location related material have been recovered from the device. These are said to include photographs related to Pahalgam and surrounding areas.

Were hints of Pakistan link revealed earlier also?

The charge sheet of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had earlier also claimed that the terrorists involved in the attack had links with Pakistan-based handlers. The investigating agencies had suggested a cross-border network based on phone numbers, digital trails and other technical evidence.

Now who are the investigating agencies eyeing?

Security agencies are now investigating the supply chain of mobile phones, funding network and possible contacts that supplied the devices to terrorists. It is believed that this electronic evidence can lead to more important revelations about the conspiracy of the attack and the network behind it.
