PM Modi Greets Nation on Makar Sankranti, Magh Bihu and Pongal; Lauds Tamil Nadu Farmers

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his wishes to thenation on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, Magh Bihu and Pongal. He also lauded the farmers of Tamil Nadu. 

Addressing a programme in Delhi on Pongal, PM Modi said, ''Pongal celebrates the vibrant Tamil culture and our bond with nature. May the festival bring prosperity and happiness to everyone’s life.''

Extending his wishes on the occasion of Pongal, PM Modi said, "Pongal inspires us to ensure that our gratitude towards nature is not limited to mere words, but becomes an integral part of our lifestyle. When this earth gives us so much, it is our responsibility to cherish it. Keeping the soil healthy, conserving water, and using resources judiciously are crucial for the next generation.''

''Our campaigns like Mission LiFE, One Tree for Mother, and Amrit Sarovar promote this very spirit. We are continuously working to make agriculture more sustainable and environmentally friendly. In the coming times, sustainable farming methods, water management, natural farming, agri-tech, and value addition will play a crucial role. Our youth are moving forward with innovative ideas in all these areas...," he added.

PM Modi's Magh Bihu wish:

PM Modi in his X post wrote, ''This sacred occasion of Sankranti is celebrated in various parts of the country according to local customs and traditions. I pray to Lord Surya for everyone's happiness, prosperity, and excellent health. May the Sun God proceed to the heavens; the Lord Sun is in Capricorn. In the Uttarayana, there is great merit; it destroys all sins.''

Further talking about Tamil culture, PM Modi said, "Almost all civilisations in the world celebrate some festival related to crops. In Tamil culture, the farmer is considered the foundation of life... Our farmers are strong partners in nation-building. The Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign is gaining great strength from their efforts. The central government is also continuously working with commitment to empower the farmers."

PM Modi added, "... This festival (Pongal) shows the way to create a balance between nature, family and society. At this time, there is enthusiasm for Lohri, Makar Sankranti, Magh Bihu and other festivals in different parts of the country. I wish all the Tamil brothers and sisters living in India and around the world a very happy Pongal and all the festivals."
