New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to create history in Meerut today, Sunday, 22 February 2026. Namo Bharat will dedicate the entire 82 km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor of RRTS to the nation and PM Modi will also inaugurate India's fastest Meerut Metro. This day will bring a big change for the people of Meerut, Ghaziabad, Noida and Delhi—now the journey from Delhi to Meerut will not take hours but will be just 55 minutes.
PM will leave from Safdarjung Airport by helicopter at 11:50 am and will reach the helipad near Shatabdi Nagar at 12:20 pm. After reaching Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat station at 12:30 pm, he will flag off the Namo Bharat train and Meerut Metro. After that, he will board the metro and travel to Meerut South Station. He will address a public meeting in Mohiuddinpur at around 1 pm and will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of several development projects worth a total of Rs 12,930 crore.
The entire 82 km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor will become operational today itself. Earlier some stretches were running – like from Sahibabad to Duhai, then till Modinagar North, and recently till New Ashok Nagar. The remaining 26 km (New Ashok Nagar to Sarai Kale Khan and Meerut South to Modipuram) will be inaugurated today. Now the journey from Sarai Kale Khan to Modipuram takes just 55 minutes! This is India's first fully operational RRTS, the foundation of which was laid by the PM 7 years ago. It speeds up to 160 kmph and cover more distance in less time. This train is a boon for commuters.
Meerut Metro will become the fastest metro in the country. Its speed is 120 kmph, and design speed is 135 kmph. The 21-23 km section (Meerut South to Modipuram) will be completed in just 30 minutes, with 12-13 stations. The most amazing thing is that it will run on the same track and infrastructure as Namo Bharat trains. For the first time in India, such an integrated system where regional rapid and metro will run together. Traveling within Meerut city will now become super fast and convenient.
Yogi Adityanath himself reached Meerut on Saturday. He took stock of Shatabdi Nagar station, Meerut South station and Mohiuddinpur public meeting ground for one and a half hours. After getting down from the helicopter, he checked from the road also. Seeing the traffic jam, he strictly told the officers, "Use all the resources and forces, but there should not be any jam in the program." Security, parking, VIP movement – orders were given to keep everything right.
This is not just a train-metro, but a big step to make life easier. Lakhs of people commuting to Delhi-NCR daily will save time, money and fatigue. The connectivity level of Meerut will go to the next level—business will grow, jobs will come, and real estate will boom. Some big announcements may also be made in PM's public meeting. Overall, today will be a memorable day for UP and especially Meerut.
