New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday achieved such a political milestone which is being discussed in the entire country. Modi overtook the record of the country's first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru for holding the post for the longest time as the head of an elected government after the implementation of the Constitution. Modi, who assumed the post of prime minister for the first time on May 26, 2014, has completed 4,399 consecutive days.
Jawaharlal Nehru took charge as the elected prime minister on 13 May 1952 after the country's first general elections. After this, he remained in this post continuously till his death in May 1964. His tenure as the head of the elected government lasted 4,398 days. Now Modi has gone beyond this figure. This is being considered a big achievement in political circles.
Narendra Modi took oath as prime minister for the third time after NDA got majority in the Lok Sabha elections 2024. Remaining in power at the Center by winning three consecutive elections is considered a big thing in itself. During the last 12 years, BJP strengthened its hold in many states and established itself as the most influential party in national politics.
The central government is currently moving forward with the goal of 'Developed India 2047'. The government says that work is being done to bring India into the category of developed countries by the completion of 100 years of independence. For this, special attention is being given to industry, infrastructure, digital services and new technologies.
It is being said repeatedly at the government level that India can reach higher ranks among the major economies of the world in the coming years. Efforts are underway to increase investment in semiconductor, green hydrogen, defense production and manufacturing sectors. Besides, the startup sector is also being seen as an area of new possibilities.
Along with maintaining the pace of the economy, creating employment opportunities for the youth is considered to be the biggest challenge before the government. The expectations of the country's large youth population are continuously increasing. In such a situation, it will also be monitored to see how much impact the development plans have on the ground.
Political experts believe that both leaders led the country in different circumstances. Nehru had the responsibility of setting up institutions and systems after independence. During Modi's tenure, digital system, big infrastructure projects, direct benefit transfer and technology-based administration gained prominence. After this record milestone, now the discussion is about how fast the government is able to achieve its declared targets in the coming years.
