National News: For poor and needy families in Punjab, the marriage of a daughter, while being a joyous occasion, also becomes a major financial challenge. Addressing this issue, the Bhagwant Mann government released Rs 29.33 crore for the marriages of 5,751 daughters under the 'Aashirwad Yojana.'
This amount is not just financial assistance but is restoring happiness and self-respect to 5,751 families. This allows poor families to marry off their children without any debt or embarrassment.
According to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab's prosperity is possible only when the weaker sections of society can live a life of dignity. The funds released under this scheme reflect the Punjab government's commitment to social justice and sensitivity.
According to Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minorities Minister Dr. Baljeet Kaur, financial assistance has been provided to 5,751 beneficiaries across 17 districts. This amount is transferred directly to the beneficiaries' bank accounts through DBT, eliminating any possibility of middlemen or corruption.
Only families who are permanent residents of Punjab and belong to the Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, or Economically Weaker Sections can benefit from this scheme. The family's annual income must not exceed Rs 32,790, and each family can receive assistance for a maximum of two daughters.
When a mother receives a message on her mobile phone about a deposit of Rs 51,000, she wholeheartedly blesses the government. This scheme demonstrates that the government's concern about people's suffering is not just a matter of paperwork but a responsibility.
The objective of this scheme is not just to distribute money but to provide respect and a prosperous future to daughters from poor families. This sends the message that a daughter from a poor family is no less than a daughter from a wealthy family.
Formerly known as the 'Shagun Scheme,' the Mann government rebranded it as the 'Aashirwad Scheme.' Each daughter receives an amount of Rs 51,000 for marriage, a significant relief for poor families.
This initiative proves that the Punjab government is not limited to mere announcements but believes in bringing about real change. This distribution of Rs 29.33 crore is bringing joy to the lives of thousands of daughters.
