New Delhi: Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant has not accepted the demand of meeting Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. According to sources, Rahul Gandhi had sought time for Monday to discuss issues related to alleged 'vote theft' and Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists. However, the Chief Justice said that these matters are already pending in the Supreme Court, so it would not be appropriate to hold a meeting in this regard. Amidst this development, leaders of Congress and INDIA block have planned to march to the Supreme Court on Monday on issues related to democracy and voting rights.
According to sources, Rahul Gandhi had sent an official email to CJI Surya Kant requesting a meeting. In response, the Chief Justice said that the issues sought to be discussed are pending in the court. It would not be appropriate to meet separately on such matters.
Yesterday, the nation's young came out in Delhi to peacefully protest. They came with love in their hearts, not hatred or anger. They were beaten, both by cops and BJP goons. This is not the India we want. Tomorrow, we will march to the Supreme Court as Indians, united beyond party, gender, caste, community and state. Youth, all opposition parties, civil society groups, all those who believe in democracy and stand by the Constitution of India, will walk with us. We will submit a memorandum to the Chief Justice on behalf of the nation, demanding an end to vote chori, halting of SIR and the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar. Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Ajit Doval and Mohan Bhagwat cannot silence India's voice. These cowards cannot intimidate us. They will have to step aside. We will march together, with love, brotherhood and patriotism. Daro mat. Tomorrow, all of India will march to the Supreme Court. #ChaloDilli
The CJI also clarified that opposition leaders can approach the Supreme Court under the judicial process to protect their fundamental rights. If a fresh application is filed, it can be heard along with the already listed matters related to SIR. A hearing on these matters is proposed for Tuesday.
INDIA block leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, have planned to march to the Supreme Court on Monday. The opposition parties want to put forward their concerns regarding alleged vote theft, special thorough revision of the voter list and demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Congress has named this campaign 'Chalo Delhi, March for Democracy'. According to the party's announcement, those taking part in the protest were scheduled to assemble at the junction of Connaught Place and Barakhamba Road at 1:30 pm.
Rahul Gandhi appealed to people on social media platform X to join the march. He said that youth, opposition parties, civil society and citizens who have faith in the Constitution can participate in this march.
Rahul Gandhi alleged in his message that the youth who were protesting peacefully in Delhi were assaulted. He said that the objective of the march is to rise above political parties and show solidarity towards democracy and the Constitution. These allegations have been made by the Congress leader.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had earlier said in Bengaluru that he and Rahul Gandhi have requested the CJI's intervention on the issue of alleged vote theft. After the demand for a meeting is not accepted, the opposition has the option of presenting its views through the judicial process.
Earlier on Friday, many leaders of INDIA block had taken out a march from Parliament to Vijay Chowk and submitted a memorandum to President Draupadi Murmu. Now all eyes are on Monday's proposed march and the upcoming hearing of the Supreme Court on matters related to SIR.
