New Delhi: Amidst the political turmoil in New Delhi over American tariffs, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rahul raised questions on the government's foreign policy regarding former US President Donald Trump's warning of increasing tariffs on India and related statements. In a video shared on social media, Rahul Gandhi took a dig at Prime Minister Modi and wrote, "Understand the difference Sirji", and cited the example of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Rahul said that India should give priority to its national interests instead of bowing to global pressures. This statement has come at a time when a new debate has started regarding India-US trade relations.
Rahul Gandhi shared a short video on social media platforms. He directly targeted the Prime Minister. Said that the difference in leadership is clearly visible. The reference was towards the strict diplomacy of Indira Gandhi.
Rahul used this phrase sarcastically. He said that earlier India did not bow under pressure. Now the situation looks different. This was the difference he wanted to show.
Donald Trump talked about increasing tariffs on India. He indicated that there will be strictness in trade agreements. The opposition raised questions regarding this statement. The issue became more political than economic.
Rahul gave the example of the period of 1971. He said that even America's pressure was ineffective at that time. India took its own decisions. The same comparison was made with the present government.
The government did not give a direct reaction to Rahul's statement. BJP leaders called it politics. It was said that foreign policy is not driven by rhetoric. The matter is currently limited to political debate.
Congress leaders supported Rahul. It was said that the interests of the country should not be compromised. Transparency is necessary on issues like tariffs. The opposition also demanded discussion in Parliament.
This issue may become more heated in the coming days. There are chances of uproar in the Parliament session. India-America trade relations will remain under watch. Political allegations and counter-allegations do not seem to be stopping at the moment.
