Senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Saturday targeted the Election Commission (EC) over his claim of vote theft. As part of his ongoing campaign against alleged errors in voter lists, he shared a parody video inspired by the Bollywood movie Laapataa Ladies. "Cryptively, covertly... He shared the video on X along with the caption, "No more now; the public has awakened.

A middle-aged man is seen in the footage going to the police station to report a theft. When asked what was stolen, he pauses and says, “My vote.” Surprised, the officer asks, “How can a vote be stolen?” The man responds, “Millions of votes are being taken away through fake voting. The scene concludes with a message on screen: “Taking someone’s vote is taking away their right.

Rahul Gandhi Questions EC

The EC responded on Thursday, saying Rahul Gandhi should provide evidence instead of using terms like ‘vote chori’. If anyone has proof that someone voted twice in any election, it should be submitted to the ECI with a written affidavit instead of labelling all voters in India as ‘chor’ without verification,” the commission said.

On August 7, Rahul Gandhi held a press conference accusing the EC of enabling election malpractices to favour the BJP. He shared some figures to support his claims. On several occasions, nevertheless, the EC has requested that he sign a declaration supporting his claims.

Protests and Voter Rights Campaign

The INDIA bloc organised a protest march from Parliament to the EC office in Delhi against alleged voter list irregularities and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar. Rahul Gandhi also announced a “Voter Adhikar Yatra” to oppose the voter list revision and encouraged citizens to participate. We are taking direct action against vote theft in Bihar starting on August 17 with #VoterAdhikarYatra," he said on X.

This is not just an election problem," he continued, "it is a battle to defend democracy, the constitution, and the 'one man, one vote' principle. Our goal is to guarantee clean voter lists across the country.Join this people's revolution, young people, labourers, farmers, everyone. This time, the people and the constitution will triumph if vote thieves are defeated.
