Rajasthan Mayor Election 2026: BJP’s Anusuya Goswami Wins Kota Mayor Poll With 65 Votes

Jaipur: As part of the municipal elections in Rajasthan, voting for the post of mayor started in Jaipur, Jodhpur and Kota Municipal Corporation on Friday. Along with this, for the first time, election of the President is being conducted in the newly formed Suket Municipality of Kota district. Voting will take place in all bodies from 10 am to 2 pm. Counting of votes will begin after polling ends and results are to be declared on the same day. Special security arrangements have been made in all three big cities regarding the elections.

Contest between which candidates in Jaipur?

BJP has made Ward 112 councillor Sunil Kothari its candidate for the post of mayor in Jaipur Municipal Corporation, while Ward 118 councillor Sunita Mawar is in the fray from the Congress side. After the voting started, both the candidates also exercised their franchise. A total of 150 councillors will elect the mayor in Jaipur Municipal Corporation. According to available data, BJP has 78 councillors, while Congress has 57 and independents have 15 councillors. 76 votes are required for majority.

Why was there uproar during voting in Jaipur?

According to available data, BJP had 45 councillors, and after the support of six independents, the party is claiming the figure of 51. Congress has 44 councillors, and it is also talking about support of independents.
