A tragic incident occured in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district on Saturday, where four individuals lost their lives after a section of a mine collapsed. The mishap is believed to have taken place during illegal mining activity, according to local authorities.
Officials confirmed that the collapse occurred within the operational zone of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL). Ramgarh Deputy Commissioner Faiz Aq Ahmed Mumtaz stated that previous warnings had been issued to CCL about potential dangers.
“This accident took place inside the CCL area. We had earlier given multiple advisories to their management. A team has now been set up to investigate what led to this tragedy. Four people have died, and post-mortem procedures are currently underway,” said Mumtaz.
Shortly after the collapse, local officials reached the site to assess the situation. Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Anurag Tiwari was among those who responded promptly to the emergency.
“We are at the location where the mine collapsed. The area is close to the boundary of CCL. A thorough investigation is being carried out to find out what happened, who was involved, and whether more people were injured. It appears that the mining activity was unauthorized,” said Tiwari.
The district administration has assured that all aspects of the incident, including the possibility of illegal mining operations, will be closely examined. Officials said strict action would be taken against those found responsible.
As of now, the identities of the victims have not been made public. Emergency teams have completed recovery operations at the site, and further updates are expected once the investigation progresses. This tragic event has once again raised serious concerns about illegal mining practices and the need for stricter enforcement of safety regulations in mining zones across the state.
