In Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, a court has convicted a dreaded serial killer whose brutality had shocked even the law. Raja Kolandar alias Ram Niranjan Kol and his brother-in-law Bachchraj Kol have been convicted by the court in the double murder case that took place in the year 2000. Now the punishment of these criminals will be announced on Friday. Raja Kolandar is known as a cannibal, a criminal who cuts off human heads and a collector of human skulls. He not only kidnapped and murdered, but also committed inhuman acts like making soup out of human brains and drinking it. Now the last link of justice is about to be completed in this 25-year-old case.
Raja Kolandar's real name is Ram Niranjan Kol. He is a resident of Shankargarh in Prayagraj district and was once an employee at the Central Ordnance Store (COD) Chivki in Naini. Raja Kolandar, who looked like an ordinary person from outside, was a dreaded serial killer, cannibal and mentally ill criminal from inside.
Raja Kolandar is accused of chopping off human heads and drinking soup made from their brains. 14 human skulls were recovered from his farmhouse. He considered these skulls to be a source of "strength and spiritual power".
The case took a painstaking turn when Manoj's father, Shiv Harsh Singh, lodged an FIR, seeking justice for his son's untimely death. Despite the police filing a charge sheet in March 2001, the trial faced significant delays due to legal complications. It took an arduous 12 years for the trial to commence, prolonging the agony for the families of the victims. The case highlights the challenges in the Indian judicial system and the quest for justice in the face of bureaucratic and legal hurdles.
Raja Kolandar has already been sentenced to life imprisonment in the case of murder of journalist Dheerendra Singh. During the investigation of the same case, 14 human skulls were found from his farmhouse. At the same time, the mystery of his being a cannibal was also revealed.
According to the public prosecutor, the testimony of a total of 12 witnesses was recorded in the case. The most important among them was Shiv Shankar Singh, who told that his last conversation with Manoj and Ravi was in Harchandpur. Shiv Shankar also identified a brown coat of Manoj from the house of the accused, which became a strong evidence in the case.
The court has declared Raja Kolandar and Bachchraj guilty. The court will announce the punishment on Friday. This verdict has come after a 25-year long legal process, which was the last ray of hope for justice for many families.
Raja Kolandar was not just a serial killer but had become a shameful example for humanity. His crimes, his madness and his brutality are now in the dock of justice. The upcoming verdict will not just be a punishment but a message that no matter how much time it takes, justice is definitely done.
