Kolkata: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) took a major action in the famous Bhangar blast case of West Bengal and arrested former Trinamool Congress MLA Shaukat Mollah. The agency team detained him from Kamalgazi area of South 24 Parganas district. As soon as the news of the arrest came out, the stir in state politics intensified. Mollah's name was on the radar of investigating agencies for a long time and in recent times many of his locations were raided.
During the investigation after the blast in Bhangar area, many such facts came to light, on the basis of which the agencies also started investigating the role of Shaukat Mollah. As the investigation progressed, his name was included in the list of accused. According to sources, notices were issued several times for questioning, but the agency did not get the expected cooperation.
A day before the arrest, the NIA had conducted a search operation at several locations including Mollah's residence. Officials examined documents, electronic devices and other material. The agency believes that some clues found during these raids gave a new direction to the investigation, after which the decision to arrest was taken.
Shaukat Mollah was the Trinamool Congress candidate from Bhangar seat in the recent assembly elections. Although he could not win. Despite this, his political hold in the area is considered strong. This is the reason why his arrest is being considered important not only as a legal action but also from a political point of view.
The investigating agency will now interrogate Mollah and try to find out whose network was active behind the blast incident and which people played a role in it. Officials believe that the inquiry can throw light on many important aspects related to the case. The agency has already arrested many people in this case.
After the arrest, opposition parties have started targeting Trinamool Congress. The ruling party leaders say that the law is taking its course and it would not be appropriate to reach any conclusion before the investigation is completed. Meanwhile, political circles are keeping an eye on the entire matter.
After the arrest, Shaukat Mollah will be produced in court, where the NIA can demand his custody. The investigating agency hopes that during the interrogation many new facts related to the blast case may come to light. At present, the Bhangar blast case has once again become the center of discussion for the politics and security agencies of the state.
