'Do I Still Need to Prove My Integrity?' Sonam Wangchuk Hits Back at 'Deal' Allegations

New Delhi: After ending her 26-day fast, social activist Sonam Wangchuk is constantly under the scanner. Some people on social media alleged that he ended his fast after some agreement with the government. Now Wangchuk has openly responded to these allegations. He clearly said that he did not make any deal and making such allegations without facts is an insult to his struggle.

Sonam Wangchuk shared a video on social media late on Friday night. He said that it is very sad for the students if they have to prove their honesty even after being hungry for almost a month.

He appealed to the people to watch the entire video on his YouTube channel before reaching any conclusion and only then form their opinions.

Why did Wangchuk get angry at the allegations of deal?

Without naming anyone, Wangchuk said that some people are propagating that they have entered into an agreement with the government. He said such allegations ignore the 26 days of penance and sacrifice he made for the students.

He said that before forming an opinion about any person, it must be seen whether the person making the allegations is impartial or is speaking under the influence of any political ideology.

'Do I have to take a character certificate?'

Becoming emotional, Wangchuk said that he lost 11 kg of weight during the 26-day fast. From the cold of Ladakh to the scorching heat of Delhi, he fought this battle only in the interest of the students.

He raised the question that even after such a huge sacrifice, will he now have to take a certificate of his honesty from the people? Will they have to prove whose hands they broke their fast and did not make any compromise?

What appeal did his wife make to the people?

Sonam Wangchuk's wife Geetanjali Angmo also made an emotional appeal to the people on social media. She said that before making any kind of criticism, one should understand how big a sacrifice it is to remain hungry for 26 days.

She said that due to the long fast, Wangchuk lost about 11 kg of weight and he had to be admitted to the ICU. She appealed to the people not to form hasty opinions and show sensitivity.

Why did Wangchuk end his fast?

Sonam Wangchuk said that after receiving positive assurance from the central government on many of her demands, she decided to end the fast. According to him, the government has assured to reconsider legal action against peaceful protesters, discuss examination reforms in Parliament and take a positive stance on the issues of affected families related to the NEET-UG paper leak case.

Currently, Sonam Wangchuk is undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram and is recovering under the supervision of doctors.
