Kolkata: Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly and senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has alleged that his convoy was attacked by Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers on Saturday night. The incident occurred in Chandrakona Road area of the West Midnapore district when the officers were returning from Purulia. Adhikari says his convoy was suddenly stopped and TMC supporters allegedly attacked his vehicles with bamboo sticks and sticks.

They accused the police administration of inaction and then staged a protest at Chandrakona police post until an FIR was registered against the accused. BJP has described this as a sign of failure of law and order in the state and is being seen as tension in the election environment.

When and where did the attack occur?

The incident happened around 8:20 pm on Saturday night. It was near Chandrakona Road market in West Midnapore. Adhikari was returning from Purulia when this was told.

Who attacked? What does the officer say?

Adhikari said that TMC-supported people were about to attack. He described the attack as “brutal.” He said that police were present but did not stop. The local police has not announced any arrest yet. Adhikari accused the police of inaction. He said that the guardians of the law did not take any action.

Why was the strike held?

Suvendu Adhikari started a protest at Chandrakona police post. He said that he will not wake up until the FIR is registered. He demanded immediate identification and arrest of the accused.

What is the political message of BJP?

BJP described the incident as an example of violence and impunity in the state. Adhikari called it an attack on democratic voices. The party raised questions on law and order under the rule of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

What was TMC's reaction?

There is no clear statement from TMC yet in this matter. In some reports, TMC spokespersons said that the opposite party is making allegations just for the sake of politics. They have refused to accept any planned violence.

Have such allegations been made before also?

Subhendu Adhikari has earlier also made allegations of attacks on his convoy. Last year, similar allegations were seen in Koch Bihar and other places also. Protests between BJP and TMC were also seen on the roads in the state.

What effect will this have on the electoral environment?

Political conflict has increased in West Bengal in recent months. This incident may become another new controversy before the upcoming assembly elections. The allegations and counter-allegations between the two sides are likely to intensify.

This incident seems to deepen the already existing political tension in the state. The politics of law and order, election strategy, and mutual accusations between parties have now reached a sharp turn, due to which questions are being raised on the role and accountability of the local administration.
