TMC Leader Kalyan Banerjee Suspended From Lok Sabha Over Remarks Against Woman MP

Amid political tensions during the monsoon session of Parliament, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee was suspended from Lok Sabha for the remainder of the session for allegedly using offensive language against a female MP.

New Delhi: Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee has been suspended from Lok Sabha for the entire monsoon session after he made offensive remarks about a rebel TMC woman MP during parliamentary proceedings. 

What happen in the Lok Sabha? 

TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee has been suspended from the Lok Sabha for the remainder of the monsoon session for his derogatory remarks against women MP. 

After the Lok Sabha was adjourned following an opposition uproar, Kalyan Banerjee engaged in a heated verbal exchange with his former party colleagues and the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) MPs including, Mitali Bagh, Shatabdi Roy and Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, in the Lok Sabha chamber. 

Did the NCPI MPs raise the issue with Lok Sabha Speaker?

TMC rebel MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar submitted a formal complaint to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla against Kalyan Banerjee, alleging indecent language, misconduct and derogatory remartks against women MPs. The complaint described this behavior as contrary to parliamentary decorum. 

Union Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal introduced a motion in the Lok Sabha for action against Kalyan Banerjee. The motion was subsequently put to a vote, and Kalyan Banerjee was suspended for the remainder of the session.
