New Delhi: Amidst the allegations being leveled against the in-laws in the suicide case of Twisha Sharma, her mother-in-law, Girbala Singh, held a press conference on Monday. She raised questions regarding Twisha's mental health. She stated that her passing feels like a nightmare to them, adding, "Come what may, she was, after all, a part of our family." She claimed that Twisha was undergoing psychiatric counseling. She further mentioned that Twisha was being administered medications typically prescribed to patients suffering from schizophrenia. She alleged that while Twisha would remain stable for a day or two after taking the medication, her behavior would subsequently undergo a change.

Twisha was a resident of Noida and had married Samarth Singh of Bhopal in December 2025. On the night of May 12, Twisha committed suicide by hanging herself. Twisha's family members have alleged that she was subjected to harassment over dowry demands. Prior to her death, Twisha had called her mother to tell her that she was being severely tormented and could no longer endure the suffering.

Now, Twisha's mother-in-law, Girbala Singh, has refuted several of these allegations. Girbala Singh stated that on that fateful night, they were providing Twisha's mother with minute-by-minute updates. She noted that they received a call at 10:10 PM and had reached AIIMS by 10:50 PM.

Was Twisha Undergoing a Mental Training Program?

Raising questions about Twisha's mental health, she claimed that Twisha was deeply involved in religious rituals and worship. She remarked, "I feel that since she was pushed into the world of glamour at a very young age, it inevitably creates psychological pressure." She added, "She was indeed a devout person who engaged in worship. She would often rest her head in my lap while sleeping."

Girbala Singh further stated, "We were all overjoyed at the prospect of welcoming our first child. However, that moment of happiness was abruptly cut short. She underwent an abortion of her own volition, despite the doctors having advised against it. On that very same day, she also attended a session for psychiatric counseling. She was, in fact, undergoing a course of medication at the time." Speaking emotionally, she stated, "It was my mistake that I failed to arrange for her mental therapy."

She remarked, "Her passing is deeply tragic. Today, the entire press and media are against us. I recall that when she began the first course of her MTP (abortion) procedure, she told me the very next day that she wanted to reverse it. I accompanied her to the clinic at that time. She went through with the entire MTP procedure. We stood by her throughout. In the evenings, when I returned home, she would rest her head in my lap and fall asleep."

What did Twisha Sharma's mother-in-law claim?

She also refuted the allegations being leveled against them by Twisha's family members. She claimed that, over a period of five months, her parents never once came to visit. She stated, "I called her mother and told her that Twisha needed her. Yet, they did not visit even once during those five months. They came only on a single occasion—when Twisha had gone to her parental home of her own accord."

She continued, "I urged her mother to come and visit, but she did not. Today, those very parents are preventing her mortal remains from being consigned to the elements. Do whatever you deem necessary, but at least allow her to rest in peace."

She further alleged that her parents used to profit from her beauty. She remarked, "These people talk about the Army. Our entire family has served in the Armed Forces; my husband was martyred in Manipur. And yet, these people... when we went to the mortuary, they were shouting and screaming at us. How can such people claim to serve the nation when they cannot even show respect to the wife of a martyr? When they cannot accord dignity to their own daughter? They have stooped to the lowest possible level."

She concluded by stating that she places her trust in the investigative agencies and in the truth of her own position.
