UGC fake university list 2026: List of 32 fraud higher educational institutions revealed

New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released a list of 32 fake universities operating in the country. These unrecognized universities were misleading students by claiming to be legitimate. The UGC has warned that degrees obtained from these institutions are invalid for employment and higher education. In the UGC's state-wise list of fake institutions, Delhi has the highest number of these institutions, with 12, followed by Uttar Pradesh with four.

What did the UGC say?

The UGC has clarified that these 32 institutions are not authorized to confer any degree under the UGC Act, 1956. The Commission stated that these institutions are not recognized by either the central government or any state government. The UGC has urged students to check the accreditation status of any university or institution before enrolling in it on the UGC's official website, ugc.gov.in.
