National News: A four-member delegation of Britain's Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) recently reached Delhi's Tihar Jail. The purpose of this visit was to assess the condition of the jail so that the extradition cases going on from India in the courts can be strengthened. This visit, which took place under the supervision of the Home Ministry, is being considered important for India, as efforts to bring back economic offenders like Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi have been going on for a long time.
According to the officials, the representatives of CPS seemed impressed with the arrangements and security arrangements of the jail. The team visited the high-security barracks and also interacted with the prisoners. It is being said that the Indian officials assured them that if needed, a special "section" would be created in the Tihar complex, where high-profile accused would be kept according to international standards.
In the last few months, British courts had raised questions about the conditions of Tihar. In February 2025, the London High Court refused to extradite businessman Sanjay Bhandari, saying that his human rights could be violated in jail. On the same basis, another couple also got relief from the court.
