Delhi-UP Rain Alert: 18 States to Witness Rain Again as Western Disturbance Triggers Storms

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heavy rain in Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir and Muzaffarabad between October 6 and 9.

New Delhi: Monsoon has bid farewell to many parts of the country, but the weather is about to take a turn once again. Due to the active western disturbance in the Himalayan region, there is a possibility of rain in the hilly states and snowfall in the high-altitude areas. At the same time, rainy season may also start in many states of North India including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert regarding rain in 18 states.

In which areas will the weather change due to western disturbance?

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heavy rain in Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir and Muzaffarabad between October 6 and 9. Strong winds along with rain may occur in Ramban, Baramulla, Shopian, Kulgam, Bandipora, Kupwara and Anantnag of Jammu and Kashmir. There is also a possibility of snowfall in the higher altitude areas.

The weather may remain affected in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand from 6 to 11 October. There is a possibility of rain in Manali, Kullu, Shimla, Chamba and Mandi of Himachal. Warnings have been issued in many districts of Uttarakhand including Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag and Chamoli regarding storm, strong winds and lightning.

When will it rain in Delhi-UP and Punjab-Haryana?

Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh may see a spell of rain between October 6 and 11. There is a possibility of rain in western Uttar Pradesh also during this period. Whereas in eastern Uttar Pradesh, rain is expected from 6 to 10 October.

There is a possibility of storm and lightning in Purvanchal of Uttar Pradesh. In some areas, strong winds can blow at a speed of 50 to 60 kilometres per hour. There are chances of change in weather in many cities including Aligarh, Kanpur, Lucknow, Noida, Ghaziabad and Gorakhpur.

How will the weather be in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh?

There is a possibility of rain in Madhya Pradesh on 10 and 11 October. Light rain is expected in East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh between October 6 and 10. There may be rain in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra on 6 and 7 October. During this period, conditions of strong winds and thunderstorms may also occur at some places.

When will it rain in Bihar, Bengal and Odisha?

The Gangetic plains including West Bengal and Sikkim may receive rain on October 6 and again on October 10-11. Rain is expected in Bihar between October 6 and 9. The rainy season is likely to continue in Odisha from 6 to 11 October.
There is also a possibility of thunderstorm and lightning in many parts of Bihar, West Bengal and Odisha.

Rain alert in South and Northeast India also?

Heavy to very heavy rain is expected at some places in Karnataka in South India. The effect of returning monsoon can also be seen in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. There are chances of rain in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema. There may also be rain in Goa and Konkan regions.

In Northeast India, rains are likely to continue till October 10 in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram. The Meteorological Department has advised people to be cautious during strong winds, thunderstorms and lightning.
