Kolkata: The West Bengal Police has decided to accord 'X' category security cover to Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee. According to sources, this arrangement has been implemented with immediate effect.
Previously, during the tenure of the Mamata government, Abhishek Banerjee was provided with 'Z-Plus' category security; however, his security detail was withdrawn following the change of power. Under the new arrangement, three security personnel will now be deployed to accompany him at all times.
The West Bengal Police took this decision based on a security assessment. This move is being regarded as significant within both political and administrative circles.
TMC MP Abhishek Banerji was attacked in Sonarpur. He went to met the victims, injured in post election riots. He was attacked by the eggs thrown upon him and also assaulted in run away.
This entire incident happened in Kamrabad region of Sonarpur. He was made to wear a helmet and escorted out of there.TMC MP visited home of a deceased party worker on saturday evening. When he arrived at Kamarabad at 4:30 PM, BJP leaders adn large number of protesters were already present there. Women were at the forefront of this demonstration, carrying raw egss in their hands.
Faced with heavy protest, Abhishek Banerji left the car and tried to enter via motorcycle. But the protesters stopped him and started shouting 'thief', 'thief' continuously. The angry mob also threw two motorcycles on road, created chaos.
The locals said, "We are laborers". We are not affiliated with any party. We are still in trouble, that's why we are angy. We don't work for any party. We are residents of this place. We are from Digha. We live here on two katthas of land.
Abhishek Banerjee has directly targeted the BJP following the attack on him. Explaining his position, he said, "This is all completely orchestrated by the BJP. You can see for yourself what has happened to me today. This is a true example of their democracy. The most important thing is that the police were nowhere to be seen at the scene."
