New Delhi: Big changes are coming to your PAN card! The Indian government is preparing to roll out a completely upgraded system known as PAN 2.0. The updated system is designed to fully digitize and streamline all PAN-related services. All PAN-related tasks—from issuing to updating—will soon be available on a single platform. To build this system, the government has selected LTIMindtree, an IT firm, and awarded it a ₹792 crore contract.

When Will PAN 2.0 Be Introduced?

According to details shared in Parliament, PAN 2.0 is expected to go live within 18 months of the tender award. If all goes as planned, it should be implemented nationwide by early 2026.

What’s New in PAN 2.0?

The purpose of PAN 2.0 is to create a modern, user-friendly digital system. Here's what it brings:

  • Simplified processes for PAN and TAN
  • Faster and more efficient user services
  • Use of advanced technology to fix current issues
  • A paperless, fully digital workflow

All related services will be housed under one roof, including:

  • Applying for a new PAN card
  • Making corrections or updates to PAN details
  • Linking PAN with Aadhaar
  • PAN verification
  • TAN allotment
  • Downloading e-PAN

How Will It Work?

With PAN 2.0, there's no need to visit multiple websites like the e-Filing portal, UTIITSL, or Protean. Instead, users will access a centralized digital platform offering all services in one place—saving time and eliminating confusion.

Will You Need a New PAN Card?

No—you do not need to get a new card. The existing PAN cards will remain fully valid. Only the backend system is being modernized. The old PAN will continue to function normally, but services will now be faster and easier to access through the new platform.

Who Is Building the New System?

TLTIMindtree, a leading IT services firm, has been entrusted by the government to design and develop the PAN 2.0 system. The firm has received a ₹792 crore contract to deliver this project. The goal is to build a secure, reliable, and smart digital infrastructure for all PAN-related activities.

PAN 2.0 marks a major step toward simplifying India’s tax infrastructure. By integrating services, reducing paperwork, and leveraging modern technology, the government hopes to offer a faster and smoother experience for all PAN users. By 2026, PAN card services will be faster, simpler, and completely digital.
