New Delhi: Heavy rains have severely disrupted normal life in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. A seven-year-old child died and four others were injured when the roof of a house collapsed in Mardan district. According to local media, the rains have caused waterlogging, power outages, and crop damage in several areas.
According to Rescue 1122, the roof of a house collapsed due to heavy rain in Mardan district. A seven-year-old child died in the accident, while his mother and minor sister were injured. According to the Pakistani newspaper Dawn, two women were injured in a similar incident in the Bala Ghari area of Mardan and were taken to hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, seven people stranded by heavy rains in Nowshera district were rescued, including three women. Furthermore, hailstorms, strong winds, and rain damaged standing crops and solar power systems in the Pandiyali tehsil and surrounding areas of the Mohammedan tribal district.
The effects of the heavy rains were also felt in the provincial capital, Peshawar. Parts of Assembly Chowk, University Road, Sadar Road, Naseer Bagh, and Hayatabad were waterlogged. The waterlogging disrupted traffic on the roads, leading to traffic jams at several locations.
The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) reported that 83 of its feeders tripped due to heavy rain. These included 19 in Peshawar, 13 in Khyber, 9 in Swabi, and 29 in Mardan. This affected power supply in many areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Earlier in August, rains wreaked havoc in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Nine people were killed and seven others injured in rain-related incidents. More than 103 houses were damaged in landslides and flash floods caused by heavy rainfall in the province.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), 49 of the damaged houses were completely destroyed, while the remaining were partially damaged. Eight livestock were also reported killed in Abbottabad and Buner. Monsoon rains continue to occur.
Rain-related incidents have been reported in several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Swat, Khyber, Buner, Abbottabad, Upper Chitral, and Lower Chitral, during the 2026 monsoon season. Continuous rainfall has caused waterlogging, landslides, flash floods, and power outages in many parts of the province.
