BCCI announced the 18-member Indian team for the five-Test series on the England tour. Karun Nair returned to the national team after 8 years, on which the Karnataka batsman expressed happiness.
Karun Nair said that he was eagerly waiting for the call as he had performed brilliantly in domestic cricket in the last one and a half years. 33-year-old Nair said that he feels lucky and is proud of his comeback after a long time.
Stellar Domestic Performances
In the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy, he amassed 863 runs at an average of 66.38, including four centuries, leading Karnataka to the semifinals.“Every innings was about proving I belong at the top level,” Nair said, reflecting on his grind. His IPL 2025 form, including a match-defining 44 off 27 balls for Delhi Capitals, further cemented his case for a comeback.
Resilience Amid Challenges
The past eight years tested Nair’s resolve. Dropped after six Tests despite his 303 not out in 2016, he faced injuries and stiff competition from India’s deep batting pool. Yet, Nair focused on domestic circuits, refining his technique and mental toughness. “There were tough days, but I never stopped believing,” he shared. His versatility across formats and ability to anchor or accelerate innings have now earned him a spot as a middle-order option for India.
Looking Ahead to England
As India prepares for the England series, Nair’s experience and form make him a valuable asset. With challenging conditions awaiting, he aims to seize this opportunity to cement his place. “I’m ready to contribute in any way,” Nair said, embodying his determination to make this comeback count.
