New Delhi: If any youth has earned the fastest name in Indian cricket in the last 2 years, it is Abhishek Sharma. This stormy left-handed batsman once again made history. Abhishek made a unique record in his name as soon as he took the field in the T20 series against England. He has now become the first Indian cricketer to have played the maximum number of T20 International matches without making his Test and ODI debut.

Has Uthappa's old record been broken?

With this achievement Abhishek left Robin Uthappa behind. Uthappa had played 46 T20 matches in his entire career without playing any Test. Abhishek has now gone ahead of him and has reached the top of this list. The most important thing is that Abhishek has played only T20 for India till now. The selectors continuously gave him opportunities in shorter formats, but he has not received the ODI and Test jersey yet.

How did he become a reliable T20 player of Team India?

Abhishek made his debut in international cricket in July 2024 from the Zimbabwe tour. By scoring a century in the debut series itself, he had shown that he has not come just like that. After that he also batted fast against teams like England and New Zealand. His habit of playing big shots and playing without fear in the powerplay made him the "X-factor" of the team.

Did IPL change its fortunes?

SRH's jersey also plays a big role in Abhishek's success. He has consistently provided fast starts for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last few seasons. It was because of his strike rate of 200 and big shots that the selectors noticed him. The same fire that was seen in IPL is now visible in International also.

Will the door of ODI-test open now?

After performing consistently in T20, now everyone is asking when Abhishek will be played in ODI. India has to play many big series and ICC tournaments in the next few months. If Abhishek remains in this form then his selection in limited overs is almost certain. But for Test he will have to score runs in domestic cricket also.

Has India got a new T20 specialist?

It has happened after a long time that a player has made his entire international career only on the basis of T20. This record of Abhishek is not just a number. This shows how much the value of "specialist" players has increased in cricket now.

Now it remains to be seen whether Abhishek can continue his form further or not. And will he soon be seen playing ODI in the blue jersey, or will he create his own identity by becoming the king of T20?
