CWG 2026: Lovlina Borgohain Slams Glasgow Restaurant Over Incomplete India Map

Glasgow: A popular Indian restaurant in Glasgow has sparked controversy after Commonwealth Games silver medallist and Assam boxer Lovlina Borgohain said that she felt 'hurt' after noticing that the India's Northeast was missing from a map printed on napkins used by the place.

What is the case?

The controversy erupted after Lovlina Borgohain spotted an allegedly incorrect map of India without the Northeast printed on the Inidan restaurant's napkins, which later prompted strong objections from the Boxing Federation of India (BFI).

The incident took place when the Indian boxing team visited Mister Singh's India - The Home of Curry for a dinner following their successful campaign at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026.

What did Lovlina say?

The row erupted after Lovlina noticed that the restaurant's branding showed an incorrect map of India without the Northeast. 

The boxer raised the issue with the restaurant's management, statring that "Please don't take this the wrong way. I felt a little hurt by this. In the map of India, our North East is missing. Yes, even outside, the map that's displayed has cut off the North East. As someone from the North East, that really hurts us. That's all I wanted to say. Please keep this in mind next time. Thank you so much."

What did the BFI say?

Boxing Federation of India (BFI) President Ajay Singh joined hands with Lovlina's initiative and openly voiced his support. He pointed out that the map not only correctly depicted the Northeast, but also Jammu and Kashmir. Singh demanded that the restaurant management immediately remove the napkins and use the correct map. He further said that such huge mistakes cannot be accepted anywhere that fosters Indian culture and identity overseas.

"There was no confrontation. It was an aberration and we pointed that out, me and Lovlina. They accepted their mistake and assured us that it will be corrected," Singh said.

What did Lovlina say about her game?

Lovlina expressed her ‘regret’ to not bag the gold medal but appreciated ‘excellent performance of the entire Indian team’ in the final match. With her achievement dedicated to the victims of the flood in Assam, now Lovlina has decided to win a gold medal at Asian Games.
