New Delhi: In the second Test played at the Oval, New Zealand defeated England by a huge margin of 253 runs and leveled the series 1-1. The result of this match has changed the entire picture of ICC Men's Test Player Rankings. England's experienced batsman Joe Root has once again reached number 1 in the batting rankings, while New Zealand's fast bowler Matt Henry has jointly achieved the top position in the bowling rankings with India's star paceman Jasprit Bumrah. Shubman Gill overtook Virat Kohli in ODI. According to the official statement of ICC, this change was implemented immediately after the end of the match.

What did India get in the ODI rankings?

Meanwhile, there was movement in the ODI batting rankings also. Team India captain Shubman Gill has moved up three places to reach second position after becoming the player of the series in the home series against Afghanistan. Gill had scored 238 runs in this series, on the basis of which India won this series 3-0. Gill is now just 24 points behind top-ranked Daryl Mitchell.

Why is it special for Root to become number 1 for the 12th time?

Root had played innings of 46 and 77 runs in the Oval Test, on the basis of which he returned to the top spot, leaving behind his own teammate Harry Brook and Australia's Travis Head. This is the 12th time in his career that he has reached the top of the batting charts. Interestingly, Root and Brook both come from Yorkshire, and in the last 18 months both of them have dethroned each other from the No. 1 position six times.

How did Henry match Bumrah?

Henry took 11 wickets in both innings in the Oval Test, taking his match haul of 11/109. Due to this performance, his rating reached 870 points, which is equal to Bumrah. Bumrah had remained alone at the top position since leaving South Africa's Kagiso Rabada in November 2024. This achievement of Henry is even bigger because he is only the third New Zealand cricketer in history to have achieved the number-1 position in the Test bowling rankings.

Which other bowlers benefited from this test?

After the Oval Test, some more names have also moved up in the bowling rankings. England's Jofra Archer jumped six places to 50th, while young all-rounder Jacob Bethel improved 29 places to 85th.

What effect will this have on the future series?

The series is now tied at 1-1 and the third and deciding Test could make the ranking battle between these two teams more interesting. There is every possibility that the ongoing battle for number-1 between Root and Brook will continue, while Henry will now face the challenge of how to surpass Bumrah and reach the top position alone.
