Indore: Indian star cricketer Virat Kohli delivered a magnificent batting performance in the third and decisive ODI against New Zealand on Sunday. He scored a century at the Holkar Stadium in Indore.
Kohli made 124 runs off 108 balls, including 10 fours and three sixes. He scored his 54th ODI century at a crucial time while chasing a target of 338. This is Kohli's 85th international century. He has broken a remarkable record held by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
In fact, Kohli has become the player with the most centuries against New Zealand in international cricket. This was his 10th century against the Kiwi team. Sachin, England's veteran Joe Root, and former South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis have scored 9 centuries each against New Zealand. It's worth noting that Sachin is the only cricketer to have scored 100 international centuries. Kohli is second on the list, having already retired from Test and T20 International cricket.
The 37-year-old Kohli has achieved another milestone. He has become the first cricketer to score 10 centuries while chasing a target of 300-plus in ODIs. He achieved this feat in 37 innings. Joe Root is second on the list, having scored 6 centuries in 27 innings so far. He is followed by Jason Roy and Rohit Sharma. Roy has scored five centuries in 22 innings, while Rohit has achieved the same feat in 37 innings.
New Zealand defeated India by 41 runs in this match. Set a target of 338 runs, India were bowled out for 296 in 46 overs. Virat Kohli scored a brilliant 124 for India, but his innings failed to secure victory.
With this victory, New Zealand secured the ODI series 2-1. This marked New Zealand's first ODI series win in India. The first match of the ODI series was played in Vadodara, where the Indian team won by four wickets. The Kiwis then won the Rajkot ODI by seven wickets, levelling the series 1-1. With this win, New Zealand secured the series.
