New Delhi: The Rajasthan Royals defeated the Mumbai Indians by 27 runs in the 13th match of IPL 2026. This marks Mumbai's second consecutive defeat, while Rajasthan has surged to the top of the points table with a hat-trick of victories. The match, played in Guwahati, witnessed the dominance of two young batsmen. On one hand, Yashasvi Jaiswal utilized his experience to help Rajasthan post a formidable total; on the other, Vaibhav Suryavanshi's aggressive batting style compelled even bowlers of Jasprit Bumrah's caliber to alter their strategies.

One key factor contributing to Mumbai's defeat was the fact that their star fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, failed to take a wicket for the third consecutive match—a situation that visibly put the team under pressure. This marks the first time in the last 10 years that Bumrah has gone wicketless in three consecutive matches.

How did Jasprit Bumrah perform?

Jasprit Bumrah has enjoyed a stellar T20 career. However, over the course of his T20 journey, there have been four instances where he has gone wicketless in three consecutive matches. Specifically, in T20 cricket—and in the IPL after a gap of 10 years—he has once again failed to claim a wicket in three successive games. In the 2016 IPL season, Jasprit Bumrah went three consecutive matches without taking a wicket. He conceded 35 runs in 4 overs against Hyderabad, 28 runs in 4 overs against Bengaluru, and 13 runs in 2 overs against Punjab, yet failed to find success. In T20 International cricket, he went wicketless in three consecutive matches during the 2017–18 season; prior to that, the same scenario had unfolded during the 2014 IPL season.

How is Jasprit Bumrah's form in IPL 2026?

In IPL 2026, Jasprit Bumrah has played in all three of the Mumbai Indians' opening matches but has yet to claim a wicket. In the ongoing season, Bumrah conceded 32 runs in 3 overs during the match against Rajasthan, 21 runs in 4 overs against Delhi, and 35 runs in 4 overs during the match against Kolkata. During Tuesday's clash against Rajasthan, 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi particularly impressed Jasprit Bumrah with his batting prowess. Vaibhav smashed two sixes off Bumrah in his very first over, leaving everyone stunned.

In the second over of the innings, when Bumrah faced Suryavanshi for the first time with the new ball, Suryavanshi welcomed him with a six over long-on. When Bumrah bowled a short delivery on the fourth ball, Suryavanshi went onto the back foot and pulled it away. Subsequently, in the very next over, Suryavanshi also hit a six off Trent Boult.

What about Points Table, Orange and Purple Caps of IPL 2026?

In the IPL 2026 points table, the Rajasthan Royals sit at the top with three consecutive victories. Rajasthan's opening batsman, Yashasvi Jaiswal, has scored 170 runs in three matches and currently holds the Orange Cap. Ravi Bishnoi has claimed seven wickets in three matches; he currently holds the Purple Cap.
