New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made a major announcement on Monday. Former spinner Pragyan Ojha has become the new chief selector of Team India. She will replace Ajit Agarkar. Agarkar's tenure ended on October 4.

The BCCI has included Ramesh Pawar in the men's selection committee. Pawar has played fewer Test matches than Pragyan. Ojha played 24 Tests, 18 ODIs, and two T20 Internationals for India. He was active in international cricket from June 2008 to November 2013.

"The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjpe, followed the selection process for the appointment of a member of the men's committee. The CAC met at BCCI headquarters to scrutinise and interview applications and subsequently recommended the appointment of Pawar," the BCCI said in a statement. The CAC had interviewed four or five candidates, including former opener Wasim Jaffer. Jaffer played 31 Tests and two ODIs for India.

Pawar, meanwhile, represented India in two Tests and 31 ODIs during his international career. He has also held coaching positions, serving as head coach of the Indian women's team in Mumbai and Gujarat, as well as bowling coach at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. He led the Indian women's team to the Asia Cup trophy and a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games. The Board praised Agarkar, the former chairman of the selection committee.

The BCCI said, "The BCCI commends Ajit Agarkar for his commitment, conviction, and contribution during his tenure as Chairman of the Men's Selection Committee. Since his appointment in July 2023, Agarkar has led the committee at a crucial time for Indian cricket. During his tenure, India won three ICC trophies, two Asia Cup titles, and two consecutive Asian Games gold medals."
