New Delhi: The Supreme Court has issued a notice to cricketer Mohammed Shami on a petition filed by his wife, Hasin Jahan. Jahan has requested that the domestic violence and alimony case be transferred from Kolkata to Delhi. In her petition, Jahan stated that she has relocated to Delhi for her daughter's better education. Consequently, she will be unable to attend court hearings in West Bengal.
Hasin Jahan stated that cricketer Mohammed Shami travels throughout the country, and therefore has sufficient resources and resources to fight the case in Delhi. Her family also lives in Uttar Pradesh, which is closer to Delhi than Kolkata. A few months ago, Hasin Jahan filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking an increase in the alimony for herself and her daughter from ₹4 lakh to ₹10 lakh per month.
The Supreme Court has issued a notice to Mohammed Shami and the West Bengal government, asking them to respond. Mohammed Shami married Hasin Jahan in April 2014, and their daughter was born in July 2015. In 2018, Hasin Jahan accused Shami and his family of domestic violence. She also accused Shami of match-fixing and having affairs with other women.
The case was registered at Jadavpur Police Station under sections 498A, 328, 307, 376, 325, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. She also filed a petition for maintenance under Section 125 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). Mohammed Shami is currently busy in the Ranji Trophy, where he recently took nine wickets for Bengal in a match against Jammu and Kashmir.
