Ahmedabad: The final of the T20 World Cup 2026 will be played today between India and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Both teams are poised to create history. If New Zealand wins today, T20 cricket will have a new winner, as New Zealand has never won a T20 World Cup title. If India wins, three major achievements will occur. First, India will become the first country to win back-to-back T20 World Cups. No team has ever won three T20 World Cups. Furthermore, no team has ever won a T20 World Cup title at home. Let's find out how much prize money the winning team between India and New Zealand will receive.
According to reports, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a total prize pool of $13.5 million (over ₹120 crore) for the 2026 edition of the tournament, an increase of nearly 20% compared to the 2024 event. With matches hosted in India and Sri Lanka, strong broadcasting deals and sponsorship revenue have helped increase the total prize fund for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026.
The team that lifts the trophy will receive $3 million (approximately ₹27.48 crore), while the runner-up will receive $1.6 million (approximately ₹14.65 crore). This means that whether India or New Zealand wins, both teams are guaranteed a substantial sum.
In addition, South Africa and England, who lose in the semi-finals, will receive prize money of $790,000 (approximately ₹7.24 crore).
Teams eliminated from the Super 8 will receive prize money of $380,000 (approximately ₹3.48 crore). This includes strong teams like Pakistan, hosts Sri Lanka, and the West Indies.
Prize money for group-stage teams: A total of 20 teams participated in the tournament. Teams eliminated in the group stage will also receive $250,000 (approximately ₹2.29 crore), ensuring that every participating team receives prize money.
