New Delhi: In the Australia series, our team won and lost some matches. Did wonders by winning 2-1 in T20 matches, especially the young players broke their backs. But lost 1-2 in the ODI. There is not much time to rest now, as the home series against South Africa starts in just a week. There will be series in all three formats, but the focus is on the Test matches – these could prove to be game-changers for India in the race for the World Test Championship (WTC).
When and where is the test against South Africa?
Two test match series at home. The first test will be held from 14 to 18 November at Eden Gardens, Kolkata – the spinners are going to dominate here. The second is from 22 to 26 November at Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, where the pitch will suit the fast bowlers. After that, ODIs start from 30 November, and five T20s from 9 December.
Is there any surprise in the Indian Test team squad?
The captaincy has been given to Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant is the vice-captain and wicketkeeper. The squad has Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudarshan, Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav and Akash Deep. A good mix of youthful enthusiasm and experienced bowlers – the Bumrah-Siraj duo can make the South African batsmen cry. ODI-T20 squad not decided yet.
South Africa's squad—who is the main weapon?
Captain Temba Bavuma, batting lineup tremendous. The squad includes Corbin Bosch, Dewald Brewis, Tony De Jorzi, Zubair Hamza, Simon Harmer, Marco Janssen, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, Wiaan Mulder, Senuran Muthusamy, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Kyle Verne (wk) and Tristan Stubbs. The fast bowling of Rabada-Jansen will test our batting, under the leadership of Bavuma they are desperate to climb the WTC table.
Why is this series a game of 'win-loss' for India?
A chance to recover from the home series right after the Australia tour, but it is important to defeat a solid team like South Africa. Spinning pitch in Eden, green top in Guwahati – in both the matches, the right selection will lead to victory. There is no update on the fitness of the players, but fans are excited about the return of stars like Jadeja-Bumrah. 2-0 clean sweep under Gill's captaincy? Waiting for 14th November!
