New Delhi: As is the case every year, several prominent Australian players are part of the IPL this season as well. Among them is Mitchell Starc, a member of the Delhi Capitals squad, who dazzled audiences with his magnificent bowling prowess last season. However, Starc has not yet joined the Delhi Capitals team; addressing this situation, he has now responded to the speculation circulating about him in the Indian media and has taken his critics to task.
Posting on the social media platform Instagram, Mitchell Starc provided an update to his fans, stating that—despite the Indian media being aware of his actual situation—reports are being framed in a manner that misrepresents the fact that he is currently working on recovering from shoulder and elbow injuries and is undergoing rehabilitation. He noted that statements have been made about him implying that he was unaware of these injuries during the Australian summer.
He criticized the dissemination of grossly inaccurate information regarding players, specifically citing claims made by some individuals who asserted that they understood his physical condition better than he did himself. Amidst all this, he acknowledged that due to these injuries, he was unable to join the Delhi Capitals on schedule. He confirmed that he will not be available for the initial matches of the season, for which he wished to apologize to the Delhi Capitals fans, and promised to continue providing regular updates regarding his fitness status.
The Australian fast bowler's wife—and former international player—Alyssa Healy had also posted an update on social media regarding her husband's fitness. In her post, she revealed that he is currently unable to even bowl, raising the pertinent question of how he could possibly play a match at this stage. It is worth noting that in the previous IPL season, Mitchell Starc claimed 17 wickets across 14 matches. Given that he is a pivotal component of the Delhi Capitals' bowling attack, his unavailability for the opening matches undoubtedly comes as a major blow to the team.
