New Delhi: Yuvraj Singh's father and former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh is once again in the headlines. Even at the age of 68, there is no control over his tongue. This time he gave such a statement which created a storm in the cricket world. Yograj said that wives and children of cricketers are the biggest reasons for their retirement. This was enough to heat up the atmosphere.
During an interview, Yograj Singh said that many players do not take decisions about their career on their own, but family pressure affects them. He said in gestures that after marriage, the priorities of many players change and this becomes the reason for their early retirement.
Yograj seemed to be firm on his statement. He clearly said that a player should be clear about his career and should not give much importance to outside advice. He believes that as long as a player has the hunger to play, he should not leave the field.
Yograj Singh also termed the issue of age as wrong. He said that in India the age of 35-40 is often associated with the end of career, whereas the real yardstick should be performance. According to him, if a player is doing well continuously, his age does not matter.
Giving the example of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, he said that both are still important for the team. If he is scoring runs, there should be no question of dropping him.
Praising Dhoni's fitness, Yograj said that he can still play for a long time. He said that on the basis of discipline and fitness a player can play longer than his age.
Yograj Singh has always been known for his straight talk. Whatever they think, they say it openly. This is the reason why his statements often become a topic of discussion, sometimes getting support and sometimes severe criticism.
After this statement of Yograj, social media got divided into two parts. On one side there are people who are calling it old thinking and openly sexism, on the other side there are some people who are considering it as "the experience of the older generation". But most of the voices are saying the same, once, twice, thrice… Now this has become a pattern, not a mistake.
Yograj Singh may have made his son a great Indian cricketer, but his statements repeatedly reveal a mindset that sees women only as an obstacle to career. This debate is not just about cricket but also about society.
This statement has once again raised the question as to what factors influence a player's career decision. While some people are seeing Yograj's point as his point of view, many people are considering it unfair and one-sided.
