Bhopal: Bhopal police made an unusual arrest on Wednesday after locals caught a man suspected of stealing women's undergarments from neighbourhood balconies. The man was found at his home wearing some of the stolen items, police said.

How was he caught?

The case came to light when a resident of Amarnath Colony noticed women’s undergarments drying on his balcony had gone missing. The man told police he saw a shadow at night around 12:30 am but couldn’t catch anyone. After reporting the theft, he shared the incident with the local police.

How did police track the suspect?

Officers found a labour card left near the scene of the balcony theft. The card had the name "Deepesh" on it, and investigators were able to trace it back to a man living in the area. When police reached his home on Wednesday afternoon, Deepak was asleep.

What did police find at his house?

When they woke him up and began questioning him, police say a brief scuffle broke out. Shockingly, officers noticed the man was wearing women's undergarments at the time. Neighbours reportedly recorded parts of the scene on their phones. The videos later spread online.

Has he admitted to other thefts?

According to police, the suspect has confessed to stealing undergarments from other areas in the city, including Mandakini Colony. Authorities are now examining whether similar complaints in the neighbourhood can be linked to him.

Are there concerns over his mental health?

Police officials said they have also initiated a mental health assessment as part of the investigation. Such behaviour could suggest a psychological or behavioural issue, they added, though no formal diagnosis has been made at this stage.

According to Dr. Rahul Sharma, Clinical Psychologist at JP Hospital, the accused may have psychological tendencies such as fetishism and vandalism. Anger or negative feelings towards women could also be the reason behind such behaviour.

What's next in the case?

A formal police case has been registered. Investigators are checking CCTV footage and witness accounts from nearby homes. Officers also plan to review past complaints of similar thefts to see if they are connected.
