New Delhi: In a major crackdown against vehicle thieves in the capital, the Shahdara District Police—under ‘Operation Street Shield’—has arrested two alleged vehicle thieves. Acting on information provided by the accused, the police recovered three stolen Hero Splendor motorcycles. This operation has led to the resolution of three vehicle theft cases, including incidents in the Shahdara and North-East districts.
As part of ‘Operation Street Shield,’ an initiative aimed at curbing street crimes in the Shahdara district, a team from the ASB (Anti-Street Crime/Special) Cell was conducting evening patrols and checking suspicious individuals and vehicles. During this process, the police received a tip-off regarding the movement of two suspects allegedly involved in snatching incidents and vehicle thefts in the Old Seemapuri area.
Acting on this intelligence, the police team strategically cordoned off the area near the Seemapuri roundabout and apprehended both suspects, who were in possession of a Hero Splendor motorcycle. Subsequent verification confirmed that the motorcycle was stolen; it was linked to an e-FIR (No. 025783/26) registered at the Ghazipur Police Station.
Shahdara District DCP Rajendra Prasad Meena stated that during interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in other two-wheeler theft cases. Based on the information they provided, two additional stolen Hero Splendor motorcycles were recovered. In total, the police recovered three motorcycles and successfully solved three cases of vehicle theft. According to the police, both accused are reportedly addicted to drugs and allegedly stole vehicles to fund their substance habits. One of the accused, Himanshu, has a criminal history involving over 11 cases related to snatching, theft, and the Arms Act, while two cases—pertaining to narcotics and theft/snatching—are registered against the other accused, Shubham.
The recovered motorcycles include those with registration numbers DL5SDJXXXX, DL14STXXXX, and UP13BVXXXX. With these recoveries, the police have solved three e-FIRs registered at the M.S. Park, Harsh Vihar, and Ghazipur police stations.
This operation was conducted under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Vikrant Chaudhary, in-charge of the ASB Cell, Shahdara District. The operation was carried out under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) Pawan Kumar and the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara District) Rajendra Prasad Meena. The police team included Assistant Sub-Inspectors Sunil Kumar and Neeraj Kumar, Head Constables Sachin Kumar, Kumar Divya Vats, Arun, and Akash, as well as Constable Sandeep.
Message from the DCP: Under 'Operation Street Shield,' action will continue against vehicle thieves and individuals involved in street crimes. The Shahdara District Police stated that patrolling and investigative efforts are being intensified to curb crime, solve theft cases, and ensure the safety of the general public.
