Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta unveiled an illustrated student booklet titled Delhi Assembly: From Imperial Secretariat to Old Secretariat at the Assembly House on Friday.

The booklet was released during an educational visit organised under the Assembly’s weekly Youth Outreach Programme. The initiative seeks to make the Assembly’s historical journey more accessible to students, allowing them to understand how the institution has evolved and contributed to the development of democratic governance.

What Will Students Discover Through the Illustrated Booklet?

The publication traces the building’s historical evolution from the Imperial Secretariat to the Old Secretariat through illustrations, significant historical episodes and easy-to-understand explanations.

By presenting historical information in a student-friendly format, the booklet offers young readers an opportunity to explore Delhi’s legislative journey and gain a deeper understanding of the historical foundations of Indian democracy.

Its bilingual format is also intended to make the content accessible to a wider range of students, encouraging them to engage with the capital’s architectural and institutional heritage.

Youth Outreach Programme Brings Students Closer to the Assembly

The weekly Youth Outreach Programme provides school students with opportunities to learn about the functioning of the Delhi Legislative Assembly and understand the role of democratic institutions.

Through educational visits and learning materials, the Assembly aims to go beyond classroom-based history lessons and encourage students to appreciate democratic values in practice.

The launch of the booklet represents another step towards strengthening civic awareness among young people and fostering a lasting connection between the next generation and the country’s democratic heritage.
