New Delhi: In Gautampuri, New Usmanpur police station area, a brother, upset with his sister's love marriage, shot her dead on Friday night after coming from Meerut. The sister had married about 16 years ago and moved to Delhi.
According to police, on July 17, at around 8:21 pm, the New Usmanpur police station received a report of a woman being shot in Gautampuri's Gali Number 17. Police arrived at the scene and found Wasima in critical condition. A case of murder was registered under Section 103(1) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and an investigation was initiated.
The brother, who was fleeing after the murder, was arrested by police in Jafrabad. A country-made pistol and six live cartridges were recovered from him.
A 32-year-old woman, who is identified as Wasima lived on rent in Gautampuri's Gali No. 17 with her husband, Irshad, and three children. According to Rahul Alwal, DCP, Northeast District, Irshad was at his fruit shop on Friday night and Wasima was at home with her son and daughters.
The victim's brother, who is identified as Mohammad Anas (22), recently arrived from Meerut, shot his elder sister, Wasima, in the chest, and fled. The daughter raised an alarm and gathered bystanders, but by then, Anas had fled. Police rushed Wasima to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The body was sent for post-mortem and a murder case was registered. Shortly after the incident, Head Constable Nafees of Jafrabad police station was on patrol. He spotted a young man running in Chauhan Bangar's lane number 10. Upon stopping and searching him, a country-made pistol and six cartridges were recovered.
During interrogation, the accused, who is a resident of Sardhana village, Meerut, confessed to shooting and killing his sister, Wasima, at their home in Gautampuri.
According to the police, the accused, Anas, told them that Wasima had eloped from home and married him for love about 16 years ago. This brought disgrace to their village and distressed their entire family.
