New Delhi: Cyber Police has exposed an alleged attempt to damage the image of Delhi Police through social media in the capital. New Delhi district police station Cyber Police has arrested 24-year-old Nadeem Ahmed Amin for allegedly circulating a doctored video on social media using a police officer's photograph, name and designation. The accused is a resident of Palwal district of Haryana and according to the police, works as a freelance journalist.
During a press conference at Delhi Police Headquarters, Additional DCP New Delhi District Manjeet said that the accused operates a news related handle on social media by the name 'News in Today'. The alleged objectionable video was circulated from an Instagram account named ‘News Aina’ linked to this network. During the investigation, the police also recovered the mobile phone from the possession of the accused which was allegedly used to circulate the video on social media.
According to the police, during social media monitoring on October 4, 2026, some reels came to light on Instagram and Facebook which were allegedly being presented as real CCTV footage. The video showed a man dressed in police uniform allegedly behaving inappropriately with a woman. Making the matter serious, the photograph, name and designation of Delhi Police ACP Vivek Bhagat were prominently displayed along with the video. An attempt was made to create an illusion that the person seen in the video is ACP Vivek Bhagat himself. Police preliminary investigation found the video to be allegedly fake and doctored.
In this case, FIR number 26/2026 dated 4 October 2026 was registered in Police Station Cyber New Delhi District under relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code. After this, the cyber police started investigating the activities of social media accounts, technical evidence and digital clues related to mobile phones. During investigation, police identified the person allegedly operating the @news_aaina0776 Instagram account as Nadeem Ahmed Amin. On the basis of technical information, the police team caught the accused from Mewat area of Haryana on October 5.
During examination of the mobile phone recovered from the possession of the accused, the police allegedly found the same Instagram account log-in which was used to broadcast the objectionable reel. According to the police, material and photographs related to the alleged fake reel were also found in the mobile gallery. That is, in the story of alleged fraud going on on social media, the mobile phone became an important clue for the police which led the investigation directly to the accused. According to the police, Nadeem allegedly describes himself as an independent journalist.
Police investigation has revealed that the accused prepared the alleged fake reel with the help of artificial intelligence based tools on October 3 and circulated it on social media on October 4. The police is now also investigating what technical means were used in making the video and whether any other person was involved in it or not.
The investigation of the case is no longer limited to just making videos and making them viral. The police are also investigating the alleged financial sources of the accused. Also, efforts are being made to find out whether any major pre-planned conspiracy was hatched with the aim of creating tension, chaos or disorder during the protest. Police are also identifying other accounts on social media who are suspected to have allegedly promoted content that maligned the image of Delhi Police and created discontent or confusion among the people.
The investigating agencies are now probing the role of possible others in making the video, editing it, providing financial support and circulating it on social media. The police are also trying to find out what was the original source of the alleged material and whether any organized network was involved in creating it. At present the accused has been arrested and will be presented before the court. Further investigation is ongoing in the matter.
