New Delhi: Mothers kept their eyes fixed on the doorway, fathers searched for their children in every passing face, and families endured days filled with anxiety and restlessness. However, when the Delhi Police took up the task of searching, hope was rekindled. In September, the South-West District Police’s ‘Operation Milap’ reunited 80 missing persons with their families, bringing happiness back to many homes.
South-West District DCP Amit Goel stated that between September 1 and September 30, 2026, the South-West District Police located a total of 80 missing persons, comprising 22 missing or abducted children and 58 adults. The police safely recovered all of them and reunited them with their families.
According to the police, search operations began immediately upon receiving reports of the missing persons. Teams from the respective police stations scrutinised CCTV footage and displayed photographs of the missing individuals in public places, including bus terminals, railway stations, and auto/e-rickshaw stands. Bus drivers, conductors, shopkeepers, and local residents were questioned. Simultaneously, local informant networks were activated, and records from neighbouring police stations and hospitals were examined. By piecing together various clues, police teams persisted in their efforts to locate the missing individuals and ultimately succeeded in finding all 80 people and safely reuniting them with their families.
The R.K. Puram police station team located four missing persons, including a minor child, and reunited them with their families. The South Campus police station team recovered two missing minor girls. The Vasant Kunj North police station traced three adults, while the Vasant Kunj South police station reunited seven individuals—including a minor girl—with their families.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of the South-West District traced 10 individuals—including five minor children and five adults—and safely reunited them with their families.
A notable aspect of 'Operation Milap' was that the police did not merely search for those who had recently gone missing but also located individuals who had been missing for years. Among those recovered in September were a person missing since 2021, a minor child missing since 2024, and two adults missing since 2025. Additionally, the police traced 76 people who had gone missing in 2026; this group included 21 minors (six boys and 15 girls) and 55 adults (22 men and 33 women).
For the South-West District police, this campaign was not limited to September alone. Between January 1 and September 30, 2026, the district police traced a total of 1,229 missing persons and children. These include 318 children and 911 adults. According to the police, all of them were located and safely reunited with their families.
'Operation Milap' has once again demonstrated that a missing person case is not merely a police matter; it involves a family's anxiety, a mother's love, and a father's hope. Teams from the South-West District Police traced the missing individuals through technical surveillance, local enquiries, CCTV footage, informant networks, and persistent field efforts. This police initiative brought the joy that many families had long been awaiting.
