New Delhi: When one’s resolve is strong, the intentions of criminals are easily thwarted. Khushi Maheshwari, a 24-year-old woman from Delhi, has set an inspiring example of how to confront adversity head-on rather than surrendering to it. Without a thought for her own safety, she pursued two men on a motorcycle who had snatched her mobile phone. Although the perpetrators caused her to fall onto the road—resulting in injuries—her determination remained unshaken. Ultimately, thanks to her bravery, the prompt response of the police, and the assistance of bystanders, both suspects were brought to justice.

This daring incident took place on the night of October 28, around 8:30 PM, in the Shalimar Bagh area of North-West Delhi. Khushi Maheshwari was returning home on her scooter after attending classes in Ashok Vihar. As she was heading toward Azadpur, near Gate No. 1 of the Shalimar Bagh Metro Station, two men on a motorcycle approached from behind. The pillion rider grabbed her hand, twisted it, and forcibly snatched her Apple iPhone 16 Pro. The sudden assault caused Khushi to lose her balance, and she fell onto the road, sustaining minor injuries.

However, the story did not end there. Refusing to give up, Khushi steadied her scooter and began chasing the men while calling out for help. As they reached the Ring Road flyover, heading toward Mukundpur, the motorcycle slowed down due to traffic. Khushi seized this moment to try and intercept them. It is alleged that one of the men attempted to push her scooter over, yet she persisted in her pursuit. In the ensuing struggle, both vehicles fell onto the road.

Amidst the chaos that unfolded, local residents managed to apprehend one of the suspects, while the other attempted to escape by jumping off the flyover. However, an alert police officer present at the scene apprehended him as well. Thus, through the joint efforts of the police and the public, the attempt by both miscreants to escape was thwarted.

A single incident uncovers a theft network

Upon searching the accused, the police recovered the iPhone 16 Pro that had been snatched from Khushi. Three other mobile phones were also seized. The arrested individuals have been identified as 19-year-old Sameer, alias 'Khachra', a resident of Bhalswa Dairy, and 19-year-old Mohit, alias 'Mohita', a resident of Mukundpur Part-2. Investigation and verification revealed that the recovered mobile phones were linked to various theft cases registered at different police stations across Delhi. Two of the phones were found to be connected to separate e-FIRs filed at the Adarsh Nagar and Jahangirpuri police stations. A third mobile phone was found in a locked state; the accused disclosed to the police that it had been snatched from the Mukundpur flyover that same day. Furthermore, the motorcycle used in the crime also turned out to be stolen. The vehicle, bearing registration number DL-14-SW-2718, was linked to an e-FIR registered at the Madhu Vihar police station on August 21, 2026.

Case registered at Shalimar Bagh police station

A case has been registered at the Shalimar Bagh police station (FIR No. 375/2026) under Sections 309(4) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police are currently investigating other cases connected to the recovered mobile phones and the motorcycle. Based on the interrogation of the accused, authorities are working to uncover their criminal network and links to other incidents. Akanksha Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for the North-West District, commended Khushi Maheshwari for her courage, presence of mind, and determination, presenting her with a certificate of appreciation. According to the police, the young woman’s quick thinking and fearlessness played a crucial role in the apprehension of the accused. Khushi Maheshwari has proven that bravery is not merely about physical strength but rather the spirit to remain undaunted in the face of adversity. When the miscreants, assuming her to be weak, snatched her mobile phone and attempted to flee, this daughter of Delhi thwarted their plans.
