New Delhi: With festive shopping set to draw large crowds to markets across the national capital, the Delhi Traffic Police has stepped up efforts to ensure smooth traffic movement and prevent congestion from disrupting celebrations. The police have intensified preparations in the East Zone and initiated discussions with local residents and market representatives to develop practical solutions for traffic-related problems.

The objective is to keep markets accessible, ensure hassle-free commuting and prevent traffic jams from dampening the festive spirit.

Crackdown on Illegal Parking, E-Rickshaws and Commercial Vehicles

Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Zone-I, Vijayantha Goyal, said that the festive season brings a significant increase in shoppers, commercial activities and vehicular movement in market areas. This can lead to traffic congestion due to illegal parking, the movement of e-rickshaws and commercial vehicles.

To address these challenges, area-level officers have been directed to prepare traffic management plans based on local conditions and identify practical solutions before congestion worsens.

The police are focusing not only on taking action against traffic violators but also on understanding the actual problems faced by markets and implementing long-term improvements. Particular attention is being given to haphazardly parked vehicles that occupy road space and obstruct the smooth flow of traffic.

How Can Citizens Help Prevent Traffic Congestion?

The Delhi Traffic Police has clarified that action against traffic violations will continue during the festive season. Citizens can also report traffic violations through the 'Voca' application, enabling the police to take appropriate action based on complaints.

The police have urged residents and visitors to actively participate in improving traffic management by following road safety rules and cooperating with enforcement personnel.

Use Public Transport and Plan Shopping Trips in Advance

People visiting markets during the festive season have been advised to use public transport as much as possible. Shoppers should also check parking availability near their intended destinations before leaving home and park their vehicles only in designated spaces.

Improper parking can inconvenience other motorists and pedestrians while potentially obstructing access for emergency services.

The traffic management initiative was attended by East Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police Shweta Chauhan and several other police officials. Emphasising public participation as a key component of effective traffic management, the officers appealed to residents to cooperate with the authorities.

The message is clear: celebrate the festivities without blocking the roads. Through stricter enforcement, better planning and public cooperation, the Delhi Traffic Police aims to keep the capital's roads moving and its markets vibrant throughout the festive season.
