New Delhi: High speed, a moment of carelessness, and the disregard for traffic rules on the road can often cost lives. To convey this serious message to the public in an entertaining yet effective manner, the Delhi Traffic Police conducted a special awareness campaign under the 'Surakshit Safar' (Safe Journey) road safety initiative. Held in the Gandhi Nagar traffic circle area, the campaign was led by Traffic Inspector Chaitanya Abhijit under the supervision of Eastern Range Traffic DCP Shweta Chauhan.

Street plays were organized at two locations with the support of Yug Sanskriti Nyas and EFCON-STRABAG to encourage responsible road behavior and adherence to traffic rules. The first event took place at the Lal Quarter Market in Krishna Nagar, where approximately 150 people heard and understood key messages regarding road safety through the performance. A second street play was subsequently held at the Krishna Nagar traffic light, drawing about 130 participants. In total, around 280 people participated across both events.

Conveying Life's Crucial Lesson Through Performance

A team of expert artists from Yug Sanskriti Nyas brought various aspects of road negligence to life through their street plays. They presented serious issues—such as speeding, dangerous and reckless driving, underage driving, and traffic rule violations—in a manner that was both engaging and impactful. Through their dialogue and acting, the artists illustrated how speeding to save just a few minutes on the road can sometimes result in the loss of a life. They emphasized that a little caution while driving can safeguard not only the driver's life but also the lives of pedestrians and other motorists. Crowds Pause at Red Lights, Eyes Fixed on the Message

Events held at busy locations like the Krishna Nagar red light and Lal Quarter Market made a significant impact on the public. Passersby were seen stopping to watch the street plays. The artists engaged the audience through Q&A sessions and dialogue, explaining the importance of traffic rules. People participated actively and appreciated the performances. The road safety message, delivered in an entertaining manner, captured public attention and prompted reflection on how a minor mistake on the road could lead to a major tragedy for another family.

Road Safety: A Collective Responsibility, Not Just a Rule

The awareness campaign conveyed that road safety is not merely a legal obligation but a shared responsibility of every citizen. Adhering to traffic rules, driving within speed limits, avoiding reckless driving, and preventing minors from driving are crucial steps toward preventing road accidents. The aim of this Delhi Traffic Police initiative was not to intimidate the public but to raise awareness and foster responsible road-user behavior. Through mediums like street plays, the campaign sought to communicate a serious message using simple language and an engaging style.

A Message Every Driver Should Remember

The program conveyed a clear message: while reaching one's destination is important, arriving safely is far more critical. Life is far more precious than the few seconds saved by rushing. This initiative by the Delhi Traffic Police reminds everyone that the true success of any journey lies in reaching the destination safely.
