DUSU Elections Today: ABVP vs NSUI vs AISA-SFI... Key Candidates, Issues and Voting Timings

New Delhi: Voting for Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections 2026 is taking place today i.e. on Friday. ABVP, NSUI and AISA-SFI alliance candidates are in the fray for four key posts of the university, president, vice-president, secretary and joint secretary. After voting the votes will be counted on September 19.

This year's elections are in the news for issues like student safety, hostels and accommodation, campus facilities, Wi-Fi and college fests, as well as violence and alleged lawlessness during the election campaign.

What time will voting take place in DUSU elections today?

Voting for students of day classes on Friday will be held from 8:30 am to 1 pm. Whereas for students of evening classes, voting will run from 3 pm to 7:30 pm.

Counting of votes will take place on September 19 at the Multipurpose Hall of the University Sports Stadium. The results of the elections will decide the composition of the DUSU central panel for the 2026-27 academic session.

Which organisations are in the electoral fray?

This time the main contest for the four central posts of president, vice-secretary, secretary and joint secretary is between RSS-affiliated ABVP, Congress-backed NSUI and the AISA-SFI alliance.

ABVP has nominated Yash Dabas for the post of President, Ishu Maurya for Vice President, Riya Chhawadi for Secretary and Lakshya Raj Singh for the post of Joint Secretary.

On behalf of NSUI, Vijay Shankar Meena is contesting for the post of President, Veer Chhatrath for the post of Vice President, Namrata Chaudhary for the post of Secretary and Gopal Chaudhary for the post of Joint Secretary. Whereas AISA-SFI alliance has fielded Ananya Raturi for the post of President, Akshat Shikhar for Vice President, Stanzin Deskyong for Secretary and B Parijat for Joint Secretary.

How was the performance of which organisation in the last DUSU elections?

In the 2025 DUSU elections, ABVP had won three out of four central posts, including the post of president. NSUI had got the post of Vice President.

ABVP's Aryan Mann won the post of President by securing 28,841 votes, while NSUI's Rahul Jhansala got 29,339 votes for the post of Vice President. ABVP's Kunal Chaudhary and Deepika Jha had won the posts of secretary and joint secretary respectively.

What are the big issues facing the students this time?

Student safety and living arrangements are among the major issues this time. After the death of seven people in the recent Satya Niketan building accident, the discussion regarding the safety and availability of student accommodation in Delhi has intensified.

The AISA-SFI alliance has raised issues related to affordable housing and hostel facilities, while the ABVP has included schemes like Student Housing Cell and security audit on its agenda.

Apart from this, students have also raised everyday issues like clean water, better canteen, reliable Wi-Fi and better artistes in college fests.

What did the High Court say about violence during election campaigns?

A day before the elections, Delhi High Court expressed displeasure over the alleged violence and hooliganism during the DUSU election campaign. The court sought a status report from Delhi Police and Delhi University by Friday and said that if the action is not satisfactory, then strict orders can be given like banning the counting of votes and declaration of results.

Complaints related to alleged violence, vandalism, presence of outsiders and use of vehicles without number plates were also placed before the court. The court also raised questions on following the instructions related to the Supreme Court, Delhi High Court and Lyngdoh Committee in the election process.

How many EVMs are being used in DUSU elections?

According to university officials, a total of 1,000 EVMs have been deployed. Of these, 960 machines will be used during voting, while 40 machines have been kept in reserve.

According to Election Officer Raj Kishore Sharma, if any technical problem occurs in any EVM, experts will be available to fix it. After completion of voting, the EVMs will be taken to the multipurpose hall under police protection, where they will be opened during the counting of votes on Saturday.
