New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has started a major action to crack down on the network that provides financial support to the roots of terrorism. The team of ED's regional office in Srinagar has conducted a simultaneous search operation at four different locations in a case related to terrorist funding. This action is being taken as part of the investigation into the case related to Umar Adil Dar and his associates.
According to the investigating agency, Umar Adil Dar is accused of working as an Over Ground Worker (OGW) of the banned terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and playing an active role in the activities related to the organization. It is alleged that Umar Adil Dar was arrested earlier along with his associates. At that time, it was revealed that a large amount of cash and objectionable literary material related to the banned organization had been recovered from his possession. ED investigation has also revealed that Umar Adil Dar has been in jail for almost four years for his alleged involvement in separatist and anti-India activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
The main objective of the present search operation is to trace the proceeds of crime, identify the economic network of terrorist funding and uncover the means of transmission of funds. The investigating agency is also trying to find out what kind of contacts the accused had with the alleged handlers sitting across the border and from where and through which routes the money for terrorist activities was being transported. ED teams are examining documents, financial transactions and other important evidence during the search. The investigating agency hopes that this action can provide important clues about the entire system of terrorist funding and other people associated with it.
