Efforts to Boost Official Language Usage in Northern Railway; General Manager Emphasises Hindi Implementation

New Delhi: A meeting of the Zonal Official Language Implementation Committee was held on Monday at the conference hall in Baroda House to discuss the effective and widespread use of Hindi—the official language—within Northern Railway. Presided over by General Manager Shri Rajesh Kumar Pandey, the meeting was attended by Heads of Departments (HODs) from key railway departments, Additional Divisional Railway Managers (ADRMs) from various divisions, and Chief Workshop Managers (CWMs).

Emphasising the maximum and effective use of Hindi in official work, the General Manager directed that individual orders be issued annually to officers and staff who have attained proficiency in Hindi. He also instructed that the process of notifying relevant offices, in accordance with Official Language rules, be completed expeditiously.

The General Manager stressed the need to strengthen and make effective the inspection points used to monitor compliance with Official Language rules. He stated that the implementation of the official language should not be limited to mere formalities but should be subject to continuous monitoring.

During the meeting, the General Manager digitally released the second issue (Tourism Special) of Northern Railway’s official language e-magazine, 'Saraswati Sangam'. Subsequently, the Operations Department presented an overview of its achievements.

Chief Official Language Officer Dr Shilpi Agrawal emphasised the need for 100% compliance with Section 3(3) of the Official Language Act, replying in Hindi to letters received in English, and conducting original correspondence in Hindi. She highlighted the importance of issuing individual orders, establishing inspection points, and ensuring the regular convening of Official Language Implementation Committee meetings. The meeting was conducted by Deputy General Manager (Official Language) Dr Sanjay Kumar Singh.
