New Delhi: On the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami, new opportunities are expected to emerge for Indian businesses in international markets. The India–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement, coming into effect on October 20, is being viewed as an important development for Indian trade, exports and employment. Under the agreement, Indian goods will benefit from zero customs duties in New Zealand, potentially improving their competitiveness and giving exports fresh momentum.
Praveen Khandelwal, Member of Parliament from Chandni Chowk and National Secretary General of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), welcomed the agreement and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and active diplomacy. He said India was moving rapidly towards giving local products global recognition. According to him, the agreement strengthens the vision of taking local products to global markets and building a self-reliant India.
The trade partnership is expected to create new export opportunities for several Indian sectors, including textiles and apparel, leather, footwear, gems and jewellery, engineering goods, automobiles and auto components, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, agricultural products and processed food items.
Small and medium enterprises, artisans, farmers, manufacturers, women entrepreneurs and exporters are also expected to benefit from the expanded access to the New Zealand market.
The agreement also includes a commitment to facilitate investments worth US$20 billion from New Zealand into India. This is expected to support industrial activity and create employment opportunities. Both countries have set a target of increasing bilateral trade in goods and services to NZ$7 billion by 2030.
Khandelwal urged traders, manufacturers and small business owners to make the most of this opportunity and strengthen their presence in international markets. He said the agreement could open new doors for Indian enterprises.
The message is clear: Indian skills, products and businesses are ready to demonstrate their strength in the global marketplace.
